Fuel tank 98% done

August 20, 2012

Well, I am pretty much done with the worst of the fuel tank.  Last night I had a marathon riveting prosealing session.  When you start the process of putting the real baffle into place you cant stop.  There is proseal on the rib flanges and the wing skin.  You have to carefully put the baffle into place then start clecoing.  Every hole gets a cleco.  Then there is riveting…all the holes.  200 maybe.  I started at 8:00pm and was finished at 11:30.  I had some fit issues, but nothing I couldn’t work with.  Now it is over and the last thing I have to do is get the fuel tank cover prosealed and screwed into place.  I’ll do that tonight and then….THE BIG WAIT.

I have to go out of town tomorrow and wont be back until Thrusday night.  Friday evening the proseal will have had pleanty of time to cure.  I’ll get the tank rigged up for the pressure test.  I am soooo worried about this.  If it passes, all is good and I can move on.  If there is even a tiny leak I have to find it and then disassemble the tank and go fix the leak.  I’ll let you know the outcome.
