Time to Finish the Left Wing

May 2, 2012

The right wing is still hanging around the garage, for the time being.  I’d really like to get it out soon. Every day that it is in the garage it runs the risk of being hit by a hockey puck or baseball.

In the meantime, I’ve started the left wing. This past weekend I got it off the ladder rack on the wall and got it on the wing rack the middle of the garage.  The wing needed some dusting off, it had accumulated quite a bit of grime.  I got the skins on and match drilled, the wing level plumb and square in about 3-hours.  Looking back through my log that took almost a week on the right wing.  With this kind of time savings I’ll be done by the end of June.  To be fair, one of the reasons for all the time savings is that I don’t have to sit around and figure out how I am going to rig this thing or situate that thing.  I’ve already done it, so I may have to make a minor change here or there, but nothing major.

I also started working on the leading edge of the wing.  I got the ribs fitted for the first time, I still have some tweaking to do, but I was pretty happy with the fit on the first try.

I  won’t be able to work on it much for the next week.  I have to do some traveling that will keep me out of the shop.
