More Wing Ribs

September 4, 2011

Nothing too exciting to report.  I’ve been getting the ribs for the right wing squared away.  Yesterday I spent most of the day on deburing and edge prep.  I got them all washed and primed before I went to bed.  Today, with Michelle’s help, we’ve gotten all the ribs attached to the right main side.  Everything is looking good.

I’m not going to dive into the next step yet.  I’m going to be traveling for the next two weeks and I have to get ready for that.  Tomorrow I have some stuff to do around the neighborhood, so I might not get anything done tomorrow either.  We’ll see.  The next step is to get one of the wings hanging vertically from the wing stands I already built.  I will have to make the requisite 20 trips to Lowes / Tractor Suppy Company before I have that task completed.

Compressor Fix

This morning I went out to get started and as soon as I walked into the garage I heard an ominous hissing noise from the air compressor.  Last night as I finished everything, I decided to drain the water from my compressor.  It is something you are supposed to do pretty often, but I haven’t done it in about 2 months.  I’ve been meaning to, honestly.

I drained what must have been close to a gallon of water from the tank.  I had some problems getting the drain valve to close, but the air wasn’t leaking and all seemed fine until this morning.  After looking at Home Depot (where I bought it) and Lowes I couldn’t find the part I needed.  I always seem to forget Tractor Supply, for some reason.  Since they are on the way home I went ahead and stopped there and sure enough they had the right part.  I got it installed and working (kinda).  Ever notice how sometimes a device doesn’t work as well as it did when it had original parts?  Well thats what I’m seeing now.  There is an ever so tiny leak in it that just wont go away.  😦  I’ll work it out with something.
