Rudder is mostly done…trailing edge finished.

April 13, 2011

Sorry, no pictures this time either.  I’m on the road and my camera ran out of juice while I was working on the rudder.

The trailing edge pretty much was a no brainer.  This is starting to sound like a broken record, but just follow Vans instructions and all is good.  All the angst about this task really comes from the fact that you’ve spent sooo much time on the rudder.  If you really mess up the trailing edge you may screw up the whole thing.

My trailing edge is not perfect, by any stretch.  It does a slight, tiny bow to it and I seem to have not dimpled the wedge enough on one end.  This completely baffles me.  I test fitted it until I was blue in the face.  The only thing I can think of is that some of the epoxy I used got between the skin and the wedge and setup there.  You cant tell it’s an issue unless you really look for it.   Being epoxy I don’t think there is anything that will dissolve  it…I haven’t googled it much though.  I may, at some future date, choose to drill everything out and try again…for now, its ok.

Next stop, rudder leading edge.   Rolling the edge is a challange but shouldn’t be a big deal.  That will be on my list of things to do on Friday.
